Description
Linda wondered why Max Welch had never married and about his age, but it was hard to tell about men with his fair coloring. When he'd taken off his cap she'd notice his receding hairline. He was well-built but many men who lived in the open a lot and worked out-of-doors kept a fine physique for most of their lives. To her he seemed taller than any man she had ever known. His blonde mustache seemed to set him apart. Linda knew of no young man with a mustache, so from such physical characteristics she thought of him as being much older than she herself was. He seemed so determined and commanding that he looked stern. How would he look if he smiled?
When Linda met Max's nephew, Kenneth Hartleigh, she thought he was like a Viking god-tall, well-built, extremely blonde and handsome. His eyes were the bluest she'd ever seen. Never before had Linda been aware of her heart, but now-she feared they could hear its pounding. She blushed and hated herself for it, but Kenneth was so handsome and his coming was so unexpected that she couldn't help it.
These are the men in Linda's life-one who was to introduce her to the love of a man, and one who was to introduce her to the love of the Master.
In this story for young people and adults, a lonely girl from the Midwest comes to teach in a small rural school in Montana. Friendliness and alone, seemingly encircled by the vast prairie, Linda becomes the protégé of her neighbor, Max Welch. In time this relationship ripens into affection and even in these bleak and unpromising surroundings Lind finds adventure, friendship, and love.
